Project Softspace
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
What's This?
Project Softspace is an audio game that requires no sight to play. Headphones are highly recommended.
This is a spin-off game for an audio drama I'm working on called Vaporware. In the game, you play the role of a test participant who is interacting with a special version of cyberspace called softspace.
It is heavily inspired by Capcom's game, Pragmata.
In this game, you shoot at robots, but it is advantages to weaken them first by hacking them. The hacking appears as a short Simon Says style minigame.
CONTROLS:
- Up and Down: Move forwards and backwards
- Left and Right: Turn left and right. These do not move you in these directions, just turns you.
- Space Bar: Shoot
- Hold Shift: Start hacking
- Release Shift: Stop hacking
- While Hacking: Press arrow keys to input the pattern given to you.
Update:
- Lowered ambient volume
- Slowed hacking pattern speed down
- Edited reverb a bit
Known Issues:
- No health indicator
- No directional labels
- No controller support
- things are overall a bit wonky sometimes.
- Audio volume of certain sounds (enemy deaths, gun charging) aren't consistant)
- Holding Shift in the tutorial area keeps repeating the hacking pattern.
- Shooting enemies can feel slightly off because of the audio spacing.
- Hacking is bugged. If you press a direction and nothing happens, just press it again and then move to the next button in the sequence.

I'll be trying out the game this week.
Nice! I'll probably be updating it here and there.
